People in Montana probably wouldn't drive this. On the third installment of my series on Brazilian cars we talk about something useful and god-awful.
Look at those tires. Now look at that stupid red badge. The Montana is as SPORTY as a Cusinart Toaster.
You can put a lot of unsecured cargo on it, 1690lb of it to be exact, before everything falls off and causes a massive accident.
It isn't particularly nice to look at, especially in the lower base models with crap hubcaps and tons of plasticky bits. The Chevrolet website tells me that the design on these is "daring". Fuck them.
There are a 2 different specs available (different shades of shit, if you will). The Montana LS and the Montana SPORT. You can probably tell them apart from the pictures, so I won't bother.
Things are a bit better on the interior, because you don't have to look at how stupid this thing looks. Everything is shitty plastic and fake chrome and you get a 5 speed manual BLAH BLAH BLAH.
They tried to make a cool gauge cluster like the one on the Sonic but it looks moronic at best.
Seats look like shit so they probably are shit. Also, who decided that teal is a sporty color?
The only engine choice available is a 1.4 Flexfuel I4 producing 92,5HP on petrol and 97HP on ethanol. 0-60 times is not quoted but I think it takes 12 seconds, the Chinese car from yesterday was more powerful, weighted the same and the 0-60 time was 11.8 seconds.
You can't buy one because you are lucky for $17,000 (SPORT) or $13,8000 (LS)

There are shades of previous Astra about the front. Just shades though.
Is this kind of thing a thing in Brazil?

Counterpoint: We in the US are very short on utes, even terrible ones. The fact that everything here looks like it was imagined in the early 2000s to be "what we'll be driving in 2015" amuses me.

I'm pretty sure that in the States, these would actually sell pretty well. It's kind of charming in a way. I don't hate it.

Everything on their model lineup looks like that.

Montana = Montaña = Mountain.
Just a small language lesson.

But this is the worst of them, I'll write about a good one next time.

For companies that need a bed to haul shit but don't need something big like the Colorado or Silverado, this would be perfect. Its a bit derpy looking but I think function over form would be a good descriptor for it. Honest little work truck, methinks.

Until it starts having the normal VW reliability issues, putting it out of service.

I like it. Except for the weird side vent. It can go.

As an American, I would rather drive the Chevrolet Montana than the Pontiac Montana.

I'm pretty sure that thing is basically a Daewoo though, so the VW might be an upgrade in reliability.

Ummm, I'm a Texan and I'd drive the wheels off that. Little trucks are cool. Sadly I'll never get one, because the only ones left here are old Rangers and S-10's, and bleh.

Oh yeah the Fiat would be my first choice. But since we get none of them, I pine for ALL OF THEM. :((((

Wow. They took the speedometer and rev counter and made them *literally* the most peripheral parts of the gauge cluster.

I love that they're already using the new plates for publicity shots. IT'S A CAR FROM THE FUTURE!
